There are many materials that can be used in making pen blanks. Included are such items as wood, acrylic, metals, and antlers.
Non-Ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper can be used as pen blanks.

Bakelite is another material that can be used as pen blanks.  Bakelite was first developed in 1907 as the world's first synthetic plastic.  It had been used in such things as radio and telephone casings, as well as kitchen ware, and jewelry.  Bakelite was designated a National Historical Chemical Landmark by the American Chemical Society in 1993.

Acrylics and resins mixed with dyes, wood or other materials are used as pen blanks.

Ebonite is a brand name for a very hard rubber initially developed in the 1830s as a substitute for the wood ebony.  Things such as mouth pieces for pipes and clarinets, and bowling balls were made of ebonite.  It has been used to make fountain pens and today, although not as popular is still used for pens.

TruStone is a brand name of pen blanks that are made of a composite material of  crushed  stones mixed and resin.  This material is very hard and makes very attractive pen.

M3, or macro-molecular metal is a space age material that is a composite of metals and other elements that have been deconstructed to the macro-molecular level, then reconstructed with checmical binders.  This material has been used in the International Space Station.
